Hongkong, 26th August, 1909.
The Hon.The Director of Public Works.
I have the honour to ask that you will be good enough
to recommend that a special allowance may be made to me out of
·
Mr. Parkins lapsing salary during his absence on half pay
leave.
I beg to fint out that I am doing the whole of Mr.
Perkins' work in addition to my own. It is now over a month
since he left the Colony and the work of the office has been
kept up to date, but this has necessitated a large amount of
extra work on my part, My usual office hours are from 8 a.m.
to about 7 p.m. with the addition of some portions of Saturday
afternoons and Sundays. So far as can be seen at present there
is little prospect of these hours being reduced if the work of
the office is to go on in the way it has done in the past.
During the last month I have worked between 90 and
100 hours overtime equivalent to more than 13 days of seven
hours each.
Under these circumstances I trust that you will see
your way to forward this application with a recommendation that
such allowance may be granted as you may consider equitable,
having regard to the amount of overtime which has to be worked
and to the responsibilities and difficulties of the office.
I have etc.,
(ad)A.E Wright.
